Jul 2022
I have never written a negative review before, but I feel like people should know how worthless this was. We often start a visit to a new town with a city tour. Have always had wonderful experiences… until yesterday. Unfortunately we suffered 2 hours with the most self-absorbed, uninspired tour guide we have encountered on two continents. Learned a lot about him (and his opinions) but very little depth re Santa Barbara’s history. Later found out some of the history he did offer was inaccurate. Would have liked to have learned more about the historic buildings, the early industries and the founders. Instead we heard a lot of blather about his childhood, the restaurants, the history of Sambo’s Restaurants, the guy who Invented Beanie Babies and the town’s nightlife (or post pandemic lack thereof. ) Most of that was shallow prattle. He began on the assumption that everyone was from LA or a big city. … and asked us to reserve judgment until the end? Not sure where that came from, but there was no opportunity to disavow the chap that we were thrilled to be in SB. We live 2,000 miles away. It was our first time and we were desirous for a meaningful experience. Save your 30 bucks.
