While many of the campgrounds and picnic areas are easily reached by vehicle, much of the forest is remote and unroaded, with excellent opportunities for primitive backcountry recreation.

A good day trip to get out of Los Angeles. Santa Barbara is worth a visit. The coast road is the way to go. The Vincent winery was worth the visit.
