I've done a few walking tours in Salem now, and though there have been others that are also great, this has been my favorite so far! For those that don't know, this tour is not about Satan (other than maybe the cute dog named Satan that was co-host). The tour guide Tom is a member of the Satanic Temple, he was extremely friendly, stayed on track with facts, and had some good jokes. Tom was very informative, not on "hearsay" ghost tales or "rumor has it" opinions, but more so on facts and history. Don't get me wrong, it's fun to get a little spooked, but if you want to go on a tour that is extremely historical with a fun host (and dog), I highly recommend this one! Tom also put into perspective not just the witch trial happenings itself, but the cultural dynamics and prejudices that took place, and he weaves this into the guided tour with locations as well. Highly recommend!

Amazing tour with Tom and his pooch Satan! Tom was knowledgeable and entertaining- our group would highly recommend doing this tour to get a different perspective on Salem history. We would do this tour again!

I really didn't know what to expect with this tour but I went into it with an open mind. In my opinion people would look at the name of this tour, "Satanic Salem..." and right away they would come to an opinion of this tour and what it is about. However, I really feel that this is the walking tour for which you should sign up. I felt the tour guide, Tom, provided an objective look at not just the Salem witch trials but the history of Salem as well leading up to the witch trials themselves. Coming out of the tour, I think that it's important that when considering the Salem witch trials we consider the prism of the Puritan culture of the 1600s. It's my opinion and I welcome the feedback of others, that although the witch trials happened in Salem, they could have just as easily happened in any other town in New England so ruled by the Puritans. It just so happened that it was Salem. An additional point on this tour is the focus of this tour. That is that there is no discussion of paranormal activity or anything else of the sort. Tom was especially effective at describing the history of Salem and the impact of the Puritans. He is open to questions and tells the history in a way that is both informative and humorous. The only critique I have of the tour is this and it really has nothing to do with the tour itself. I was there roughly a half hour early as I did not want to miss the tour. In my opinion it was just tough to discern the exact meeting point of the tour even with the provided in the email, especially in the dark of late September. I thought about it on the way home. Tom did have a small microphone that he was speaking into shortly before the tour to announce it and in addition he called people who were missing on his cellphone prior to the tour leaving. A true commitment to seeing that everyone who had signed up for the tour was able to see it. I thought perhaps if he had a large sign, perhaps fluorescent orange or some other distinctive bright color it would really stick out and grab people's attention.
