The half-day float with our guide, Sidney, was well organized and afforded spectacular views of the river and canyon area. Just long enough to feel like you’d had a nice excursion without feeling like you’d baked yourself to a crisp in the desert sun. This said, I’d recommend the trip for families or bigger groups rather than solo travelers or couples. My wife and I were stuck in a raft with a family—not bad in itself—but the quality of the trip was marred considerably for us by a talkative, rather superior bunch who knew everything about everything, including everything that you know too (by the by), and wanted to make sure everyone knew it. At length and without surcease. This was too bad, given the nonpareil beauty of the area and the gift of seeing it from the Rio Grande itself. Still—I’d advise travelers to think about the group dynamics before setting off.

We took 11 family members on the scenic half-day trip when the Rio Grande was at a higher level than many years past. Ages 9-65, so it was ideal for us- 3-4 rapids, a cold swim and beautiful scenery. Our guide (Isaac) kept us engrossed in the scenery, habitat and history the entire trip- something we all thoroughly enjoyed. We expected some excitement, relaxation and fun (which we got), the fascinating education about the river and it's history was a definite bonus! We hope to request Isaac for a Chama float next year!

Rafted down the Rio Grande River between Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico and really enjoyed the trip. Got a little wet, but everyone is required to wear life vests (state law). The scenery was beautiful and the trip down the river was a lot of fun. The river was higher than normal due to the large amount of snow and rain they have received this year, but it was still enjoyable. The guides were all nice and knowledgeable. Be prepared to get a little wet and and keep in mind that there is snow melt in the water, so it could be a little cold. There were 10 of us (8-70 years old) on different rafts. You can also Kayak with a guide. Our guide, Juliet, also gave us some pointers on good places to eat and to shop in Santa Fe. Lots of fun and I'd do it again. I'd recommend it to anyone.
