The unseasonably warm and sunny weather in late April made all the difference, and was the only reason we even considered this cruise. We were walking the waterfront andf Argosy was out advertising a half price special (April 26 - 5PM )cruise due to the great weather--The tour guide was very good--just the right mix of information-- You could see Mt Rainer--which is only visible about a third of the time. If the weather is decent, which is a "Big IF", it is great to get out on the harbor to see the city, and learn a lot in one hour---and a discounted price is good too as retail price is a little steep.

The cruise route was probably a set itinerary that would be typical of any of their public harbor tours although ours was a chartered cruise. From the cruise base at Pier 55 we sailed north along the waterfront until we reached the lighthouse on Magnolia and the former Fort Lawton. From there we reversed course and sailed along West Seattle's west shoreline until almost Lincoln Park. Reversing again we sailed back around Alki beach to the east side of West Seattle, the industrial Harbor Island, into the mouth of the Duwamish River and then north past the stadiums and finally ending back at Pier 55 at exactly the appointed time. The highlight for me was sailing very close to a huge container ship and watching, up close, the loading and unloading of its cargo. I say that because I am a Seattle native and am familiar with the sights afforded by the rest of the cruise. I am confident that the crew would normally announce points of interest along the path but since it was a private party they did not interrupt conversation with excessive commentary. They did announce when we passed a sleepy sea lion on a buoy and a porpoise along side the ship and other significant sights. The ship was clean and well maintained and the crew was friendly, accommodating and professional. I was surprised that we were allowed to do self-catering. Most such venues either do not allow it or assess a surcharge for it. I can't think of any negatives and would suggest the tour for any visitor to the city or residents who do not have their own vessel to conduct such a sightseeing excursion. Two thumbs up.

I get motion sickness easily - was not an issue. The guide (Marcus?) was informative and entertaining. He knew his history and what he was looking at. Pointed out the best place to take pictures of the Seattle skyline. The captain slowed as we passed a buoy with Sea Lions (young males, because everyone else stays in California) and entertained us with the fact the local seals know the difference between the local Orca and the visiting (the seals get out of the water when the visiting Orca are around). I thought I would be bored, but I wasn't. I do recommend wearing a sweatshirt and long pants, even if it's summer. There was a lot of wind. Sit on the right side on the upper deck.
