Going-to-the-Sun Road

An engineering feat in Glacier National Park. Created specifically for visitors to drive over the Continental Divide. While it's a short, steep 50 miles, you'll want to spend most of a full day or longer taking in the numerous beautiful viewpoints. The Loop

Along the drive we will share stories of how this difficult road was planned and constructed. A great deal of care was taken to not "scar" the mountain landscape. The Loop is the location of the only switchback along the journey - surprising for a mountain road. The views from The Loop are impressive and the structures were hand built by stone masons.

Located at the lower end of Lake McDonald and roughly 2 miles from the West Glacier Entrance, Apgar offers a visitor center, some gift and camping stores, dining, lodging and boat rentals. The Apgar Campground is the largest campground in Glacier National Park and almost always full.

Centre d'accueil d'Apgar
