We were fortunate to have some beautiful weather and the Yukon offers exceptional scenery. Really enjoyed the views and getting to see the sights. Southeast Tours was booked via the AlaskaCruises.com website and we took the Deluxe Yukon Sightseeing Tour.
We were supposed to depart at 9am and hurried to meet the deadline after getting off our ship. When we arrived, they seemed surprised to see us and a little disorganized. Our ship Radiance of the Seas was scheduled to depart at 4:30pm so the six hour tour would leave us some time to see Skagway and shop a little.
After waiting around for a while we were finally told we would not leave for the tour until closer to 10am. Unfortunately and understandable another ship was late that day so they delayed the tour for them. When I asked at the counter when we would return I was told 3:15pm. This would still leave us a little time to see Skagway.
Our driver was a soft spoken woman that didn't speak clearly into the microphone during the tour. It was very hard to hear her over the road noise. So for the hours and hours we drove, we could only make out parts of what she was saying. Didn't really matter as it seemed many of the stories she relayed seemed to have nothing to do with the history of the area, things we were seeing or otherwise. Instead we were told of personal anecdotes that were completely irrelevant.
The tour reached our lunch stop and we were not told when to get back on the bus. Keep in mind this is a full bus of 30-40 people wandering around the shops and such at the lunch stop. When I asked the driver what the plan was for getting back on time for our ship she seemed surprised at the news and said we would be back close to 4pm. I was left wondering how we were going to get going on time with no deadline to get on the bus but we managed. This disorganization and added stress made the rest of the tour less than enjoyable.
Driving back the driver said she skipped some stops to meet the deadline to reach our ship. Hours and hours of more mumbled dialogue from the front seat. She did agree to take us directly to the ship and we did reach it in time though.
Our van/bus was crammed full of people and the seats are tight for two adults. Overall, my wife and I would have probably enjoyed the train ride or renting our own vehicle a lot more.

Do this instead of the train! We loved it!
The train doesn’t stop for bear sightings. We stopped twice, including once for a bear right outside the bus windows.
The train currently stops at the border. The bus goes all the way to Carcross in the Yukon Territory.
This tour includes lunch.
In addition to the bear stops, we pulled over another half dozen times for photos. The tour guide took pictures of every couple and family at every stop. You don’t get that on the train.
