We live in the metro Atlanta area so we've had the opportunity to visit here for many years. However, based on what I'd heard about it, I just never could find a reason to spend the time and money to do so, preferring instead tons of other options the city has to offer. This week we were getting together with a group of about 50 people and staying in the Stone Mountain area. The person responsible for planning this get together chose WoC as one of the major activities for the week (as part of what was described as an Atlanta "tour" that would take the heart of the day). Went along more for the described tour and since we'd never been to WoC was interested for the experience. Didn't go with extremely high expectations but was anxious to see the bottling operation and the vault. Boy was I disappointed there! We're big travelers and I love going places and seeing how things are done. I really expected something like the Coors Brewery tour in Golden CO - you know the bottles actually getting washed, filled, capped, the bottling room floor. To begin with I reset expectation for something much smaller scale when I realized the size of the building. Didn't even come close. Some static display and lots of plaques to read about the bottling process but not the real thing by any means. Ok, off to the vault - I had no expectation that I'd get up close and personal with the full recipe, or even a large part of it. I did, however, expect to see more than the outside of a silver colored door that likely isn't really a vault at all and doesn't really have the recipe housed there. All in all, glad I didn't pay big bucks and come do this on my own. The tasting room was interesting but I'm trying to steer clear of sugar so I felt very limited. This really is simply another Coke sales opportunity - great place if you're looking for Coke swag and parephenalia as there's a big variety in the gift shop. If that's all you care about, skip the tour and spend the $$ in the shop directly instead since you can access without touring.
Wouldn't bother and wouldn't take out of town visitors unless they specifically asked and maybe insisted.
