We had booked the group tour, but since we were the only ones, we got a private tour! Yay! Barb, our guide, met us and set our bikes up for comfort and we were on our way. I had never ridden an electric bike, but after just a couple of minutes, I got the hang of it. Barb knew all of the back ways to take so that we were not near traffic very much at all. We rode all the way down past the Santa Monica Pier and by areas that I'd never would have visited on my own. The whole time, she told us about the history of the area and of certain locations and homes. I really loved the William Randolph Hearst home and area. We then headed back down towards Santa Monica Pier and into the Venice Beach trails. We stopped a couple of places, including the Tony hawk skate area, the Venice canals, and the Venice Pier, just because I wanted to see you where the movie 'falling down' ended. We happened upon a motion picture set for the movie, Barbie, which was really cool. Just going behind the scenes of Santa Monica Beach and Venice Beach was amazing. The quaint homes on the canal and the vast homes on the beach were beautiful and hearing about some of the history of the area was very insightful. The tour is about 26 mi and last for just under 3 hours, so we definitely got our money's worth. Barb then gave us some suggestions for lunch and we bid goodbye. Where you meet up to start the tour is not on the pier, but is a lovely walk from it. There are so many shops and restaurants along the way. My son and I enjoyed that walk very much. I highly recommend this tour. It was one of our favorite things that we did during our California trip.
