Route 66
After departing the Phoenix metro area, our tour travels through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.
2
Williams Depot
Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.
3
Grand Canyon National Park
Just before entering the Grand Canyon National Park, you will be checked in for your 45 minute helicopter flight, spanning over 90 miles of the Grand Canyon. After your flight, your guide will bring you back into the National Park to discover more by foot. You will have opportunities to walk the rim, shop, capture an unlimited number of photographs, or relax with the best seat in the house. Adding the helicopter flight to the ground experience is truly the way to "see" the Canyon. It was wonderful to be able to fly over the beautiful formations you can only see from a distance on the rim. Our driver on the ground portion, Steve, was great. The resort pickup was right on time. His narration along the trip provided a wealth of knowlege. Our pilot, Jeff, also provided a marvelous air experience. This portion of the trip was also made easy. Check in was a breeze. I found the best way to do this trip is keep it simple. It's cold and windy in winter so be prepared with layers. I only had my camera, wallet and a few snacks. There were adequate pit stops along the way. You are able to purchase photos and USB drive of the helicopter trip after the experience. I would do this trip again in a heart beat.

We agree, the helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon is absolutely stunning. Surreal? Amazing? We've got it: Absolutely stunning, surreal, and amazing! Steve is an incredible guide that we have. Always full of information and knowledge just when you think you know all there is to learn! The team over at Maverick do an incredible job as well. Not one bad day when you fly with them! Thank you for sharing your experience and we do hope that we see you again soon!

Very satisfied with my recent trip to the Grand Canyon which included a helicopter flight. Detours were very professional and our guide had a high level of knowledge about the area. I booked through viator, 2 days prior to my trip and found the process extremely easy and was contacted promptly in regards to my reservation.

Hello Louise! We're glad to hear that you had such a lovely tour! The helicopter flights are truly life changing - seeing the Grand Canyon from a bird's eye view sometimes make us wish we had more flight abilities as human beings. In the mean time, we will just have to stick with helicopters! Thank you for reaching out and expressing your feedback and experience with DETOURS. We appreciate it!

Words can not describe the breath taking experience regarding our helicoptor ride at The Grand Canyon. The ride was as smooth as can be. It was not scary at all. I highly recommend it.
