Our small group experience takes place in a big boat atmosphere! A maximum of 20 guests onboard allows our captain and crew the chance to focus on providing each guest with the very best experience. Our boat is really what sets us apart from other companies- we have a fast, fun and extremely comfortable boat where everyone has a cushioned seat, large open platform for viewing the whales and fast, quiet engines to help us maximize our time with the whales during your tour. Knowledgeable captains and crew who have worked among the whales for years will share whale facts and answer your questions. It's a great photo opportunity and most people who do it come back for more!

We participated in an early morning whale watch with Captain Kevin and naturalist Gina. We were very lucky and spotted whales within minutes of the start of our trip! Gina did a great job of explaining about the lives of whales while Kevin got us as close as allowed and kept watch for more whale sightings. We went to the 6:45 am time slot. It was easy to find and we were happy to have the rest of the day left. Water was provided for those who wanted it and there is a toilet in board in case you need one. I especially liked that as each family signed in, they were given a number. When it was boarding time, they called the numbers that were given out as each family arrived. That meant that all of the people who arrived late and got in line first had to wait for those of us who were on time. I highly recommend Makai Adventures!

After taking multiple big boat whale watches I have decided the small boat is the only way to go. They can maneuver faster and get you to the whales long before the slow lumbering boats that refuse to go over 12 knots. The big boats always use some lame excuse why they travel so slow. Best bet for whale watching.

Kevin & Amanda were great guides with tons of knowledge about the area and the whales. The boat was very comfortable and slip location was convenient. Next time we’ll do a snorkeling trip with these guys.
