Aperçu
The Jungle Prada Site History Tour is a historian-led walking tour of a private seaside garden and featuring the best-preserved American Indian mound in Tampa Bay. The Jungle Prada Site Complex is also thought to be the landing place of the 1528 expedition led by Pánfilo de Narváez, the survivors of which walked from Florida all the way to the Pacific Ocean (1528 – 1536). The privately-owned Anderson Mound has been lovingly preserved by members of the Anderson family for over 80 years.

You’ll meet wild peacocks, discover native plants used by the Tocobaga people, and explore a side of St. Petersburg, Florida you never knew existed!

I have driven past this historical site hundreds of times without ever realizing what a treasure trove of local lore lies behind the trees. A tour of the Tocobaga Indian mound reveals artifacts of their culture, while peacocks roam freely on the grounds, Our tour guide reflected his knowledge and love of local history, with an intriguing account of the Indians and the Spanish explorers who visited these shores. While touring the seaside gardens, he pointed out local landmarks, and explained their histories as well as the native plants and how they were used by the Native Americans. Locals as well as visitors to the area will be surprised at what they learn at this site.
