Billet d'entrée au Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Centre (visite autoguidée)

Aperçu
No venue in the Smokies provides a better glimpse into the human history and diverse cultures that have inhabited this beautiful region. From the Native American villages of 10,000 years ago to the moonshine culture of the 20th century, the Heritage Center offers a little something for everyone. You can also tour authentic structures of the region which have been relocated to the Heritage Center campus for preservation and interpretation. These structures are fully furnished, just as you would have encountered them in their original locations. Included in the collection are log structures dating to circa 1800 as well as a church, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, cantilever barns, and even a moonshine still house!

The Heritage Center provides a great background on the people and culture that have inhabited the Smokey Mountains. The exhibitions about the Native people give a fairly thorough history of the early years of inhabitation. The 13 historic buildings give a better understanding how the more recent pioneers in the. Area lived. They total experience gives one a better appreciation of the people land history of the area.

We did the bus tour with Mark on a Tuesday morning, and ended up being the only ones on the tour, which was excellent. Mark was very informative and enthusiastic about the area and the heritage. He knows many descendants of the original settlers, so told us of personal accounts handed down within the families. If you are at all interested in the history of the area, the Heritage Center and the tour are well worth doing. I think there were more informational signs at the Heritage Center than in the whole GSMNP. The museum and grounds admission are included in the tour price. I think they only do the tours on Tuesday and Thursday in the fall. Highly recommend.

We went there just to see what may be in the Museum. You couldn't ask for a better place to go and get history on the Indians in Townsend. We enjoyed it so much we were ready to go again the next day. We have told everyone we can about the place. Never knew it was there and am glad we found it. Well worth the 10 dollars for us Senior Citizens. Will do this again.
