Even a turquoise expert is likely to learn quite a bit here. For someone less knowledgeable, it's almost too much. But it is fascinating, and all the turquoise on display, from sites all over the world, is captivating. The mansion can be a little difficult to navigate, and the museum's map appears not to match up precisely, but it's all compact enough to figure out after a while. One thing they need to clarify (or better yet, revise), however, is their policy of deeming ANY SLR or camera with an interchangeable lens a "professional" camera which requires a professional permit, which is quite expensive. Most DSLRs on the market are NOT professional cameras, and their owners are NOT professional photographers.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Turquoise is a huge subject and it can be a little overwhelming sometimes, Hopefully the displays made it understandable. I'm sorry our photo policy can be frustrating sometimes. Basically, cell phones and similar mobile devices are relatively unregulated, but any handheld camera (film, digital, and even those throw away wind up cameras) have to be permitted, I'm not sure what the terms SLR or DSLR mean, sorry. Sorry again for any confusion.

Turquoise History was pretty good. Most of the framed information was very small, but available. By the time we got to the final room, viewing of turquoise was too much. Conciliation, the exotic house built between the one-ways, built only a few years back, was viewable. The furnishing were antique pieces along with chandeliers that were everywhere. Sad that all of the window coverings were closed. With the fee that we paid, amount of visitors (three others while we were there), three house guards, one parking guard, two cashiers, this museum will not succeed.

Thank you so much for visiting The Turquoise Castle, our new location after 26 successful years in Albuquerque. We are glad that you enjoyed the turquoise collection that has taken 5 generations to curate. As you pointed out, we display a lot of turquoise, I hope you noticed that each gallery is used to teach a different subject related to turquoise; and that the items displayed in each room are there to help illustrate that subject. We pride ourselves on not being a museum that just displays interesting things to look at, but uses those items to teach a subject in completeness. Thanks for visiting we hope to see you again in the future. Jacob Lowry, Turquoise Museum Executive Director

I would never have guessed that I would have so much fun learning so much about turquoise. I would never have guessed that I was meander through the rooms for two relaxing hours! Time evaporated. Every room, every nook, every display case grabbed my attention. The moment I walked up to the outside door and was greeted by a real, live person!! I knew this was going to be "something different". The atmosphere was classy, elegant, while being casual and very comfortable. The staff was knowledgeable, happily shared information, answered any question I asked, and did it all with a smile. The property itself is worth the admittance price. The turquoise collection by itself was work the admittance price. Put them both together which is what you get....kapow! a great time. Lots of hands-on exhibits, lots of mind boggling pieces of jewelry and oodles and oodles of display cases and pieces of jewelry. oh...and be sure to look up at ALL the chandeliers. Gorgeous!!! A must-see, must-do destination when you visit Albuquerque.
