1
Skagway
Leave the crowds of Skagway behind and join a small group tour to Klondike National Historic Park in nearby Dyea. In 1898, Dyea boasted over 8,000 residents and had a Main Street lined with dozens of hotels, restaurants and saloons. Little of the town remains today. Alaska nature is what gives Dyea its defining character.
2
Gold Rush Cemetery
Another possibility is a short stroll through the thick spruce forest to visit the Slide Cemetery. Dozens of miners were buried here after the Palm Sunday avalanche of 1898. The quiet here is palpable; only occasionally is it broken by the lilting call of a songbird. The faded wooden grave markers are a poignant reminder of the hazards faced by the Klondike argonauts.

We had a great time with our tour guide Paul. With a total of four in our group, we had great personal attention. Paul was very knowledgeable about the area as well as the wildlife and flora and fauna of the area. We really enjoyed the walk through and around the valley and old town site. We will certainly book again with Rainbow Glacier if/when we are back in town.

Thanks for your great review. Paul is a true asset to our company and he really knows the area well. I'm glad that you mentioned the small group, that is a Rainbow Glacier Adventures specialty!

I desperately wanted to find a tour that would take me to Dyea, and this was the one of the very few I could find. Cindy, my amazing tour guide, picked me up at my Skagway hotel and spent a few minutes with me to discuss what I was hoping to see on the tour and go over critical safety information (Dyea is known for bear activity). As a fantastic photographer herself, Cindy knew all the best spots to go to, and provided valuable historical information and other interesting facts throughout the tour. Highlights included seeing the start of the Chilkoot Trail, all the locations of the former town of Dyea and so many other great photo opps of Skagway from afar and the river. Cindy was more than happy to take photos of me whenever I asked, and was really kind and helpful overall. Because we had a little extra time at the end, we were able to check out the Gold Rush Cemetery on the way back to Skagway (it's a fairly far walk from the main part of town) and also see the beautiful Lower Reid Falls up close. These were tremendous bonuses to me and really made the trip perfect. Booking with this company is a breeze, and the tour van was in fantastic shape. Communication was extremely courteous, professional and transparent throughout the entire process. I'd strongly recommend this company and wouldn't hesitate to book a tour with them again. Thanks so much for helping me realize my dream of seeing Dyea up close!

I am so glad you enjoyed our Dyea tour. Cindy Schultz is a seasoned RGA guide and also freelances for the New York Times as a photographer. She is a true professional who cares about the quality of the experience for each of our guests. It sounds like there was plenty of time on your tour to see Dyea and also visit a few extras locations! I am glad you enjoyed the fact that we have small group tours and lots of flexibility.
