We chose this digital application (self-driving tour) over the trolley tour at Valley Forge because it was near lunch time and we (two adults) were traveling with 4 kids (ages 7-10). We felt it gave us more flexibility than the trolley would have (to get snacks, stop for a bathroom break, etc.) Also, for a group of 6, it was significantly less expensive.
The driving tour matches the map from the visitor's center and the application clearly marks each stop. It was easy to figure out which audio file to play at each location and which to play while traveling from one location to another. It offers suggestions about when to get out and visit a site and when to just drive through. The directions are well timed so I recommend starting each file as you leave the stop you just visited. The audio was very clear, not only about the history of valley forge, but about directions on where to physically be on the driving trail, including land marks and which way to turn. We found it very easy to use.
As another review stated, the tour does take you on a state road for a bit, but we did not find that problematic. We did the tour on a Saturday afternoon in June. There was little traffic on the roads we used.
Additionally, it did give us the flexibility we needed for our children, as well as offer us guidance on our trip through the trail. I would recommend this to others, in particular those traveling with younger kids.

Heather, thank you for your detailed explanation to help future travellers! Great to hear that my self-guided tour was such a perfect fit for you and your family's visit to Valley Forge. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to improve the tour and earn it that extra star!
