We are on our 20 year anniversary, and both first time Hawaii travelers. We wanted to start our vacation with an adventure. Man did we ever get it. The scenery driving around the island is an experience in and of itself, but when you go on this adventure and move closer to the heart of the island through the jungle you truly start to get a taste of paradisiacal beauty of the island.
Our tour guide, Brian, was absolutely fantastic. Very knowledgeable, personable, and takes the best pictures for you. He did everything within his power to make the adventure fun, knowledge based, and even personable.
Make sure and get there 15 minutes before start time so you can get your waterproof pack setup and get your instructions ahead so you start on time. We spent a total of approx. 4 1/2 hours on this adventure. The kayaking on the river was hard, but majestically. Such pretty landscapes and Brian’s stories made you forget about the fact you were your own motor. Once docked at the start of the hike we were treated to some great info and history about the hike and what we would see. It was very muddy, but it added to the adventure and fun. Brian took the time to stop and show us all of the different vegetation and quite a few of the landmarks along the trail. He had the birds literally flying in and eating out of his hands, and took the time to tell us about the species and tell a story how each was named. The payoff in the end at the waterfall was so worth the trek through the mud. I would highly recommend this adventure for anyone vacationing in Kauai. Ask for Brian as your guide and you will get an adventure experience that is second to none. If I could give this adventure a billion stars I would.
