We booked Duke’s directly with the company. Brian was our guide and we couldn’t have been more pleased. He really took his time telling us stories along the way, he has a great sense of humor and he’s just a nice guy. We all seriously enjoyed spending the afternoon with him. We have a family of 8 and there were 2 other couples in our afternoon group. The weather was ideal. One couple had a hard time kayaking on their own, so Brian tied them up to his boat and hauled them down the river to the hike. Another couple was a little freaked out when they saw the mud and actually turned back because they didn’t want to get that muddy. Our family thought the mud made for an extra layer of adventure and we didn’t feel rushed even once to get though. There were lots of little ones who had already completed the hike, so don’t let anyone else fool you into thinking you can’t do it. By the time we arrived at the waterfall (which is breathtaking), we were the only ones there. Brian told us to take our time and enjoy it. We could take up to an hour there. He took pictures for us along the way with our own phone cameras (in a waterproof clear bag with a lanyard around my neck). Seriously, we passed a friend as we kayaked in who lost her phone in a ziplock baggy somewhere along the river. Make sure you have it secured to you! You will want your hands free for stability through the mud and also so you can paddle. Our whole family went under and behind the falls. Brian taught us that if you toss a leaf or some water behind the falls it actually goes up instead of down. Our teens loved this! The hike back was quicker with less story telling, but the kayaking back gave us a chance to chat and visit with everyone as we returned to the dock. I would HIGHLY recommend Duke’s. It was very affordable for our large family and the best guided tour we’ve ever had in Kauai (and we’ve done this hike before). You can tell Brian has really taken the time to learn the history so he’s prepared to make it come to life for the rest of us and make us laugh. Our kids begged us to do it again the next day, which we seriously considered for a moment. 😉 Communication was awesome and we felt safe the entire time. Go Duke’s!

On recommendation of friends we booked this excursion off a cruise, not realising we had to first get to the Waterfalls at Wailua, which we obtained by 25minute taxi trip. We arrived early expecting to have a coffee but local restaurant has gone out of business. We were kitted out and put thru a instruction drill and set off in our kayak's for a 2mile journey up the river...well if you havent kayaked or done it for a while yr in for fun ....zig zagging across the river with 6 other kayak's was entertaining but a little exhausting as you both have to paddle straight ! Then we had a 1.6mile walk over rocks/boulders, thru a running stream, mud and finally the falls ! Most welcome by then as you were not only tired but hot ! so a dip in the cool waters was a necessity. Be aware that you need good walking shoes, to get into the falls due to the rocky bottom. The trip back seemed less arduous and Kayaking down water is a lot easier then up stream. Tips, u need to be reasonably fit, take plenty of sunscreen, good walking shoes suitable for getting submersed and insect repellent. It was fun but we were buggered by days end.

We only had 3 days in Kauai. Booked a Kayak tour on day 1. We had a 7am start time. My group woke up really early to drive 45 mins and be there at 7am. We were almost there when we had a call to say that the tour guide did not show up, and the tour is cancelled. Our remaining days were already booked with other activities.
