This is a very late review but I wanted to share my memorable experience at Wailua River Valley and Secret Falls with Dukes Kayak Adventure.
Our journey began with boarding a kayak and launched from the Wailua River Marina. We kayaked through the river enjoying the scenic view for approximately four miles. Once we arrived at the other end of the river, we parked our kayaks and headed towards a hiking path. We hiked through a lush tropical forest along the river bed, but the paths were muddy due to a recent rain. There were times when the hike got a bit challenging, as we trekked through a trail in knee deep mud. But the end result was worth it – a breathtaking view of the Uluwehi Falls also known as Secret Falls. Our first dip in the pool was exhilarating and refreshing after hiking in the humidity. Luckily we had on our water shoes, because the bottom floor of the pool leading to the falls was very rocky and slippery. It is also not recommended standing underneath the falls due to falling rocks.
John our guide was very knowledgeable about Hawaiian history. We stopped at certain spots during the hike as he provided a little bit of history at each point. He was very helpful when we came across paths that were very slippery – making sure we have a steady foothold and going at our own pace. Once we arrived at the falls, our lunch comprised of a deli sandwich, chips and water bottle was served.
Make sure to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and bug spray. I highly recommend this trip for those seeking a little bit of an island adventure. Great for families too! Aloha!
