We just returned from Maui but wanted to praise Wailea Watersports. We booked our surfing lessons through our resort activities desk. That day it was raining and cold so we rented wetsuits from Snorkel Bobs to keep ourselves warm. We had the best time! Both my wife and I loved the experience. The lessons were at Kalama Park in Kihei where the waves are small and the water is shallow. (A little too shallow in places so take extra caution when you fall of the board) We paid more for private lessons so that we can get a little extra attention. Our instructors were great. Well mannered, courteous, and sincerely interested in teaching us. Needless to say after the first 20 mins we were both riding waves. They had a photographer snapping action shots of us that you can purchase afterwards if you like them. These guys are not the cheapest surfing lessons out there but I think the price for the instructor's professionalism is well worth it. We were next to another group and I noticed their instructor kept looking at his watch to see when the lesson was over, not really caring about the students. I guess you get what you pay for.
