This is the classic whitewater rafting trip experience down the Grand Canyon of the Snake River. It doesn't take all day, but you'll wish it did.  The rapids are fun and the calm sections of river let you relax and enjoy the scenery all around you. There are non-paddling and paddling positions in this raft all watched over by an experienced whitewater rafting guide.  River Class I-III (easy to moderate).

  • Not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries
  • Not recommended for pregnant travelers
  • Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
  • Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
  • Please wear shoes that can get wet that will not fall off your feet. An old pair of running shoes or water shoes would be your best option. You must wear footwear in the raft, so we do have booties available for rent if you do not have footwear. Sizes run 2 – 15 and can be rented upon arrival for $5.00 per pair.
  • Please wear synthetic clothing if possible and bring layers. Synthetics are best for the river because they dry faster than cotton. A bathing suit underneath shorts and a t-shirt is fine for a nice, warm, summer day.
  • Conditions can be variable; you may experience a cold day on the river. (Not to worry, it will still be a lot of fun. You just have to dress appropriately!)
  • We have wet suits & wet suit jackets available for rent. Wet suits are $10.00 to rent. Wet suit jackets are $5.00 to rent.
  • Splash gear is complimentary. On a cold day, you’ll want a bathing suit to wear under the wet suit.
  • Bring a change of dry clothes and a towel!
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are highly recommended.
  • Gratuity not included.
  • Please note: kids must weigh at least 50 pounds or more to go rafting!

As soon as we walked in the doors at Mad River Boat Trips we knew it was the place to be. Everything was very neat and in order, with lots of cool merchandise to have a lasting reminder of the great time we had, and the staff was very friendly. They were totally willing to help us get everything that we needed in order to have the best rafting experience. Once we had gotten all of our gear, we loaded up on a bus and drove down to the river. Upon arrival at the Snake River, where we were about to start our adventure, our amazing guide greeted us. He was incredibly helpful in making sure that everyone was in his or her desired location on the raft and that we were all comfortable. He was also very conscientious of whether anyone was afraid or if they did not like the things we were doing. Overall, it was an incredible experience. I look forward to returning sometime soon.

Our guide and the crew back at the Mad River office rocked it! Great directions and patience during several calls and emails made before our trip, they accommodated the needs of our large group, with some rambunctious teenagers who calmed down during the marvelous ride down the river, and some wonderful sightings of otters, moose and birds. The guide was knowledgeable and navigated us through all the best viewing spots and photographic moments. Would do this again!

The 8.5 mile Snake River Rafting trip is beautiful and fun – it is not particularly exciting with class 1 and 2 rapids in late September. Well there may have been one class 3 at the Great Kahuna Falls, where we were hit with a wall of water and everyone got wet. One of the best parts of the activity was the people who work there. They were communicative with email before the trip, explaining what we needed to bring and how to prepare for a half day and maximize our time and fun on the water. While we were getting ready to go out, the office crew was very helpful and the guides were a wealth of knowledge once we hit the water. It was really cold the day we went and the water temperature was cold too. Mad River performed a calculation to determine safety and offered everyone in our party a wet suit, booties and gloves gratis. Top notch, freshly laundered, clean. Very Nice. Mad River makes for great family fun or a superb team building event.
