From our vehicle you will see the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, room 306 where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. This is also the location of the National Civil Rights Museum.

This was once the home of Jacob Burkle, a German immigrant who chose to participate in the Underground Railroad. This home was a stop on the Underground Railroad and is now a museum.

Historic Mason Temple

This is the world headquarters for the Church of God in Christ. It was here where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his last speech, "I've Been to the Mountaintop" less than 24 hours before he was assassinated.

Ms. Jackie does a great job bring the history to life. She is a talented historian and singer. It was most powerful to hear MLK’s Mountaintop sermon while visiting the church where he spoke it.

Jarvis greeted us with a bright smile and energetic personality. He was great, the tour was amazing. It goes through the history of the enslaved, the hero’s (then and now), entrepreneurs in the area and how local communities have made significant changes. This tour dispels the myths and is very interactive. I’d recommend you make this tour one of the first ‘to do’s’ on your visit, I think it’s really helpful as the backdrop to this authentic, historical and fun city. Did I mention Jarvis was great!!
