We visited the 360 Chicago Observation Deck two nights ago, a Sunday evening, about 8pm. We had CityPasses that included this and we had already been to the Willis Tower, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Field Museum, and the Shedd Aquarium during our long weekend. All these attractions were good to excellent in their COVID-19 protocols, EXCEPT for 360 Chicago Observation Deck. The waiting area was an airless, cramped room that had maybe 40 people stuffed in there. Staff was indifferent to non-existent. Some patrons had masks, others didn’t have them on or were not wearing them properly.
The staff broke their own posted protocols for allowing members of different groups to ride in the elevator. Just ahead of us was a group of 8 and another had 2. They squeezed the 2 people in with the 8! When I pointed this out, they let me and my husband ride with one “only” one other couple. The elevator was dingy and rattled badly.
Got to the top, and there people running around everywhere, same mask situation as downstairs.
They serve alcohol up there and they had drink specials to lube up the folks who were scared to go on the Tilt. We didn’t do that feature, as it would have involved another long, non-physically distanced line of people in no masks. We didn’t stay long. I saw only one cleaning lady, and she was slowly collecting and emptying trash from the dirty bar-lounge seating area.
The lighting up there is poor and it makes for poor night-time photos of the city because of all the glare and reflections in the windows.
To contrast, the Willis Tower was a clean, very professionally run venue, with timed entrances and clear rules of how to act and what was expected. They were constantly cleaning the surfaces and windows, and had directional ropes and much more staff on hand. The other museums we visited were similar.
Skip this one until COVID is over, or maybe go earlier in the day. Also, it was very much “down in the heels” as far as finishes, upkeep, and cleanliness, and was way better 30 years ago.

We sincerely apologize for your negative experience at 360 CHICAGO. The safety of our guests is our top priority and we take your comments very seriously. Up until this point, we have had only positive feedback about our enhanced safety protocols which include reduced capacity on the floor and in our elevators, mandatory masks, socially distant queueing, hand sanitization stations, and a strict cleaning schedule for TILT and all public surfaces.
We have worked with the City of Chicago to ensure our attraction meets or exceeds the highest of safety standards. Any incidence of our safety policies not being followed is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We will use your feedback as an opportunity to revisit the consistency of the protocols and retrain our staff as needed. We hope you can give us another chance to provide you with a safe, enjoyable experience the next time you are visiting.
