We have done the Fairwind snorkel cruise several times over many years (I've lost count) and it never disappoints! The staff is wonderfully attentive, the snorkelling is beautiful and the food is great! Even if you choose not to snorkel, just the boat ride out and back, the stop in the bay and the delicious lunch is worth every penny. We even saw a couple of whales! This was an added bonus! I would highly recommend this snorkel cruise (in fact it's always at the top of my list for any friends and family travelling to Kona!) A must do!

I went on the morning cruise with my sister and dad (sis and I are both in our 30s, dad is 64). We had initially planned on just snorkeling, but at the last minute decided to upgrade and try SNUBA. Couldn't be happier with that decision. Rebecca was a fantastic instructor and made everything very easy. I had previous SCUBA experience but my family did not, and it didn't matter at all. Instead of snorkeling at the surface and being restricted to the shallowest parts of the reef, we were able to go 15-20 feet down and essentially get a private tour of reef areas that snorkelers couldn't reach. Rebecca took pictures of us throughout the dive and was up-front about the fact that the company would charge us 40 bucks to take the pics home afterwards. We did end up buying them, since this was a pretty unique family experience. The cruise itself is a blast, even if you don't do SNUBA. The crew is great, the food is good (try the pickles!), and the big boat makes a comfortable home base for the trip. Highly recommend it.

For my wife's 50th our family of 5 booked the afternoon snorkel cruise. We couldn't snorkel any locations due to the large swell so were apprehensive about the conditions at kealakekua bay. We reserved five spots and had great communications via email prior to our day of arrival. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff who checked us in and gave us reef safe sunscreen (very important to not use standard sunscreen since additives damage coral). The trip to the bay was great with the staff of 7 on hand to answer all the questions with a smile. Once at the bay the boat captain went over safety rules. Snorkel gear was in very good conditon. We spent the 1.5 hours in the bay snorkeling. The staff spent time helping those on the boat that were timid in the water feel safe and secure. I was watching the young staff on the boat while I was in the water. At no time did I see them horsing around or goofing. They were always watching the swimmers for any sign of trouble. The bay was smooth as glass with no swell and incredible viability. Even if you can snorkel other spots, give these guys a gy, you will not be disappointed. Oh and my suggestion if you go, please leave a generous tip. They had a tip basket out and didn't advertise it like some tours. I was appauled to see loose change and one dollar bills thrown into the tips. Please be generous as these folks put a lot of effort into making sure you have a great safe time.
