From the start it was a great trip! Our guide, Shoyo, was informative and personabe. Before we got to the summit of Mauna Kea, we stopped at the rec center for a bathroom break and sandwiches. To say the least, the sandwiches were splendid! At the top of the mountain Shoyo provided us with interesting information about the observatories. The view was spectacular and Shoyo took fantastic pictures of us for free! Once we saw the sunset and said goodbye to the summit we headed down to stargaze. The night sky was beautiful with more stars than you could count in a lifetime. You could also see the milkyway galaxy with your naked eye and once again the wonderful guide Shoyo took breathtaking photos of our family underthe stars! The whole trip was a once in a life time experience!

This trip was incredible! Wes was our tour guide and he provided us with so much information about the history of this great land. Aki’son was a fantastic driver and a phenomenal photographer. The whole experience was so worth it. A beautiful sunset and clear sky for a night of star gazing. Highly recommend!!

We found Hawaiian Eyes via TripAdvisor and at first I was hesitant based off the lack of reviews. However, the reviews on TripAdvisor were all super high and after reading some, I realized the lack of reviews is because they were exclusive to Japanese tourism till recently. Now giving English tours, I can’t give a higher recommendation to Hawaiian Eyes. They picked us up at our resort (only tour to do so) and drove to the visitor center. There we got a delicious vegetarian sandwich (I didn’t even miss the meat). From there we spent a while exploring the summit before and during sunset. After sunset we went to a stargazing spot and got to see the moon through their telescope. Probably the most impressive thing is they take professional photos during sunset and after dark (through super long exposure) of you and the stars in the background. Once back in the van they promptly airdrop the photos to you, all included in the price of the tour. Thank you Hawaiian Eyes for an amazing experience.
