Driver/tour guide (Hiro) was exceptional. Had a great amount of knowledge of Kona area from the driving starting point to the top of the summit. Drive started close to sea level, drove up to 9,000 ft elevation ranger station. Stayed 40+ minutes to acclimatize and then drove to the 13,700+ level where the 12 observatories were. The tour company (Hawaiian Eyes Tour) provided parkers and gloves to those who wanted them as it could get quite cold if the wind picks up. Observatories were closed to tourist due to COVID restrictions. Guide took several photos at the top with you just before sunset. Recommend using the porta johns up there as it is a long way back to a decent rest room. Stayed about 45 minutes at the top, and then drove back down after sunset to a site to star gaze as the guide provides about 45 minutes of lecture with hot chocolate and tea on the constellations in the sky. Pinpointing constellations out by a laser. Trip started at 2:30 pm and arrived back to original pickup site close to 10 pm.

The stargazing part was the best. Our guide knew all the names of the stars and pointed them out with a lazer pointer.
