Staying at the Washington Hilton for work, I brought my mom (70) and daughter (15) with me. We were spoken to by Abe about how “wonderful” the Hop-on, Hop-off bus tour would be and that we were “lucky” they were running a special of buy two days, get one free. $120 later with maps, apps, and instructions they boarded the first bus on Tuesday, July 16, 2019. What Abe failed to articulate is that it would take 1 1/2 hours to get to anything. The first bus driver on the red bus told them to take the blue bus as it was quicker. They took that advice and wasted the entire day on Tuesday on the blue bus when all the wanted was to go to the Holocaust museum. They yellow bus broke down on Tuesday and so everything was behind. It took them about 1 1/2 hours to get from the hub back to the hotel. Wednesday, July 17, 2019 they started to the hub and for the red bus to the museum, the only success of this whole mess. When they tried to get back to the hub they were told that one of the busses had broken down and things were running slow. They waited an hour for a bus (mind you they bill this as busses available every 15-20 minutes) they arrived back to the hotel at 6:45 pm (waiting for bus starting at 3:30). Thursday, July 18, 2019 the bus that takes people to the hub (yellow) caught on fire! They were given tickets to ride the trolley. This tour bus has never been on time and has had issues all three days. It should be known that it takes between 3-4 hours on the bus to get back and forth from the hub to hotel, this is NOT an effective use of time. The drivers have been rude, not helpful, and unfamiliar with the area. It has been in the 90’s and the buses have not been air conditioners either. It has been such a huge waste of money. I would absolutely discourage anyone from using Big Bus Tours in DC.
