First let me say that this was a long day. We did have 2 small children on our tour, and they were very well behaved, but I would not recommend for smaller children. There are stops about every hour or so with restrooms. There was no eating allowed in the van, but you could have water. The first chance to eat something, was about an hour into the tour, where we stopped at a bakery and you could purchase items to eat. We had a provided lunch that we ate at Volcano National Park. It consists of white rice, flavored chicken breast, purple sweet potato slices, 2 small pieces of breaded fish and a drink. Our tour guide, Dave, was very knowledgeable and did a great job explaining everything. We did have light rain throughout the day, but that did not impact the trip. We brought raincoats, but they were also provided. The temperature did get cooler throughout the day, as we went higher up in altitude. We brought pants and changed into those at lunch. This is a great tour, for the first day of your trip, in case you wanted to revisit anywhere that you wanted more time. We found that the time we spent was enough for us, but did help us acclimate to the areas more.
