We spent the entire day with Clay taking both his tours. Despite the museums being closed on Mondays, we had an exceptional tour. Clay is a native of Birmingham and his vast knowledge of the history of Birmingham cannot be surpassed. He not only discussed the Civil Rights movement, but went back to the 1930's to give a detailed explanation of what events and groups set the stage for the latter movement. The food tour covered a wide range including hot dogs,BBQ and a local brewery. I highly recommend both tours.

This 3-hour tour was outstanding. Clay is an Alabama native and although he loves his home state, he has no illusions about its past - or present. He's extremely knowledgeable not only about Birmingham's civil rights history, but about pretty much anything else one could think to ask. And he's got a dry, self-deprecating sense of humor, which lightens things up some considering the sobering history of civil rights in Birmingham. The tour covered a lot of ground, literally and historically. Besides walking around the downtown sites, we were driven around the city in the new Red Clay Tours van, getting out at several stops. This tour is highly recommended!

I really enjoyed the tour, it was just a little chilly to be standing outside for a length of time. It would be nice to actually go inside one or two of the locations visited.
