Boston Day Tour by Ferry: Salem Witch Trials Past to Present

Обзор
Salem, Massachusetts: a quaint, sleepy, Puritan fishing village where nothing exciting happened...until peculiar things began to frighten the otherwise quiet community, and the fear of witches among them drove the village to its breaking point. Known for the infamous 1692 Witch Trials, Salem offers the unique opportunity to dive into the true history of what actually happened in the very setting where these stories took place. Visit eight significant sites and learn about the town's seafaring past as your guide reveals what drove reasonable townsfolk to utter hysteria on this perfectly planned day trip from Boston with a small group of 14 people. Depending on the day of your tour, you'll visit the Salem Witch Museum (Sunday-Thursday tours) or the Real Pirates Museum (Friday & Saturday tours).

Salem
After your museum visit, you'll retrace the footsteps of Salem’s famous history with a walk through town. As a bustling seaport, the town was home to merchants, sailors, and even pirates. Some of these figures played surprising roles in the town’s history, both before and after the trials.
4
Salem Witch Trials Memorial
Next, you'll pause for reflection at this powerful memorial honoring the innocent victims of the Witch Trials. Dedicated in 1992—the 300th anniversary of the trials—by Elie Wiesel, the memorial commemorates the 20 victims in their own words, featuring proclamations of innocence taken from the court transcripts. You'll also visit the nearby Burying Point, the final resting place key figures of the trials, as well as notable Salem residents.
5
Bewitched Statue of Elizabeth Montgomery

The tour was better than I thought. The guide met us on the dock before taking the ferry. He told us clearly what to expect in this excursion. The ferry from Boston to Salem was breathtaking. The guide was one of two, and he told us a lot about himself. He took us to the Witch Museum where we watched and listened to an odd recount of what had happened in Salem so long ago. I understand the odd presentation was rather old too. Then, we broke for lunch and there are plenty of decent places to dine in Salem. At 1:00 pm, a new guide took us to the spots in Salem. He was very knowledgeable and clear. We learned a lot and would recommend this tour. However, we walked a lot, so you had better wear very comfortable shoes.

We did not get to visit any worthwhile sites. The Memorial and adjoining cemetery would have been interesting, but we were rushed out of there and had no time left to look around after our guide finished droning on and on. In fact, that's what our guide did everywhere while we stood around listening to the same facts that had been covered at the first museum. We had an hour on our own at the end, which we'd been told we could use to tour the House of the Seven Gables, but that was not possible. Those tours are scheduled at certain times; it was not possible to take a house tour and make it back to the ferry on time. It's not a bad idea to take the ferry to Salem, but once there, use a mobile guide to see the sights on your own and spare yourself this miserable experience.

The guide never showed up. Unreachable by phone. Don’t waste your money. Viator was useless in solving the problem either. No refund.
