I *never* write on line reviews, but our memorable experience at Arizona Outdoor Adventure left me inspired to do so for the first time as it turned out to be the highlight of the trip. We signed up for the 2-hour ATV tour, as did originally, several others in our group. We were greeted and prepared for the ride up by our enthusiastic and charismatic guide Tori, who did a great overall job leading our adventure. After familiarizing everyone with the safe operation of their chosen equipment, she led us through two practice courses that accurately simulated the conditions that we would be facing during the actual tour. At this point some people who started off on ATV's chose to drive UTV's instead (hint: you will have the chance to reconsider what you are driving before beginning the actual tour). Once everyone was comfortable with their equipment choice, the two-hour clock started and we were off.
The ride took us south and west onto BLM riding trails in the Table Mesa Recreation Area of the Sonoran Desert. Part challenging 4x4 hill climbing terrain, part smooth & flat dirt trails - all of it featured astounding views and amazingly fun driving. We took several short breaks, where we were provided with plenty of cold water. At one of the stops, Tori led us on a brief hike up a summit where ruins of an ancient Hohokum tribal fortress stand There she provided a brief history of the fort an nearby lands, pointing out some scenic highlights that were visible from behind the stone wall. Never pushed beyond our skill limits, we made good time and had enough "extra" time near the end to do an additional loop through the "yellow" trail.
I can't stress enough how great an experience this was. I ride both street and trail, motorcycles and quads - this was a legitimate challenge of my off-road skills. The trails were not busy, all the safety gear was provided and all the equipment was in good working order. Expect to get dirty on the dusty trails, so bring clean clothes or at least plan on changing soon afterwards.
