Great experience saw what we wanted but doing the East River was too long once you have seen an apartment building you have seen them all. If there is an option for 1.5 hours I would definitely recommend it. Opted for the premium seats and were glad we did. Our waitress was fun but had too much on her hands, there should have been more staff for our section. Very pricey for drinks and snacks!

THE FAMILIAR After 25 days NYC exploration, spread over 5 visits in 2 summers I thought I’d seen all the iconic attractions south of CENTRAL PARK NORTH. But not from the water. This new aspect was well worthwhile. Just moving under all the EAST RIVER BRIDGES and being able to scope out those fabulous buildings from up close on the river side was a wow. Even things I’d done before like THE STATUE OF LIBERTY from the water was an improvement – our boat went much closer and did a figure 8 just off the island, unlike the STATEN ISLAND FERRY which sails right on by at a greater distance.. THE NEW Despite walking the UPPER WEST SIDE; subway and bus trips into QUEENS, THE BRONX and HARLEM; crossing the GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE several times; approaching by train down the HUDSON VALLEY and similar, I had only a rough idea of the geography of NORTHERN MANHATTAN-THE BRONX-HARLEM - QUEENS, I came away from this cruise with a pretty full understanding of how these areas fit together. What surprised me was THE EXTENT of the landscape – there are important areas and fixtures in this space one would not think of. Which brings up the excellent commentary – our guide knew heaps about the history and economics of the various areas and imparted this with clarity and lots of humour. A real pro. TIPS – the first 15% of this cruise covers the same ground as CIRCLE LINE’S “LIBERTY TOUR”. Worth doing if taken as a free extension of the BIG BUS TOUR (the commentators are different and the sights worth seeing again) but I would not pay to do both tours. - ARRIVE EARLY if un-booked, at least 45 mins before commencement. This is one popular tour. BTW I don’t think I’d book ahead unless on a very tight schedule – I think bad weather on the day would diminish enjoyment: views from the bottom deck are less expansive. - research CIRCLE LINE’s inclusi deals for other NYC attractions like the EMPIRE STATE, ONE WORLD, MONA yada - these are genuine bargains. - for a quick exit at tour’s end, take the back stairs from the top deck. Most people take the front stairs which jam up. - nearby attractions to pert 83 are the fantastic “INTREPID” AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM immediately north, the HIGHLINE WALK and associated VESSEL starting about 5 minutes walk south, and TIMES SQUARE/BROADWAY a half dozen blocks east.
