I am a Williamsburg regular (every 5 yrs or so) for the past 40 years or since I was stationed in Yorktown, VA in the USCG in 1981. As a lover of history, It just can't get any better than listening to the individuals, Patrick Henry, George Washington or Thomas Jefferson to name a few. My wife and I came to enjoy the cooler weather and some history but we were slightly disappointed. Many of the buildings were closed as were some of the Taverns due to a lack of workers to staff Williamsburg. What we did see was exceptional! The Governors Palace, the Capital building and several of the stores were very educational and as usual and the weather was great. Maybe the biggest disappointment was the Raleigh Tavern. It has always been a staple to go to the Tavern Bakery (out back) and get some Sally Lund bread, A ham biscuit or sandwich and a bottle of Root Beer. Due to Covid and lack of help, they are not currently making the ham biscuits or sandwiches. We were sorely disappointed in that. We also discovered the there is nowhere in Colonial Williamsburg to buy a "Williamsburg Ham". The "Peanut Shoppe" no longer carries them due to complaints that they weren't refridgerated. Apparently todays generation does not know that salt cured smoked meat does not need refrigeration to stay in good quality. We will be back again but we will make sure that everything is up and running beforehand.

My family and I purchased America's Historic Triangle Ticket which allowed us entry into Colonial Williamsburg along with Jamestown and Yorktown facilities for seven days. Unfortunately, we could only visit for a short time. I wish our vacation had been longer. The ticket agent at the visitor's center gave us a map of Colonial Williamsburg and told us some of the things that were happening the day we were visiting. I wish more stuff had been opened. It seems that only a few venues are open on certain days. Some places that were open made us wait until the people ahead of us had cleared out. Other things we wanted to do (Carriage Ride, restaurant) were already booked for the day. We did get to visit the Courthouse, the African American Religion Exhibit, the Armory, the Joinery, the Capitol, and the Governor's Palace. All of us thought the Capitol tour was the most interesting. The historian did an excellent job. At the Courthouse and the Governor's Palace we had a hard time hearing because of the acoustics. Overall we enjoyed are visit (except for the hot and humid weather). The Triangle ticket is worth it if you have multiple days to visit. If you are only visiting for a few hours, I would not bother with any tickets and just walk around taking in the atmosphere and talking to the actors who are walking around the town.

This was our first visit. We were interested in visiting Williamsburg colonial village, Yorktown, and Jamestown. We were led to believe that a 3 day pass, accompanied with our National Parks pass, would allow admission to all threee venues. As it turned out, very few of the buildings in Williamsburg were open. We could have walked around for free. The shuttle buses were overcrowded, necessitating a long wait. At Yorktown, the only building open was a restaurant. Didn't need a pass - just money. At Jamestown, we learned there that there was an upcharge from our Williamsburg and National Park pass. Smelled like a scam. We left.
