Our guide, Fernanda, gave us a true local tour through a museum, market, historical church, well known and not so well known art district streets, and eventually to a hidden bar with an amazing view of the entire city. The bar was quite something with a respectable collection of craft beers. It ended up being a private tour for my wife and I because no one else showed on a Tuesday. I guess we got lucky. Our guide had a lot of passion for the city’s history and a ton of local’s only knowledge about various features and characters you may see walking around the streets. Lunch was at a great hole in the wall taqueria. Amazing tacos and quesadillas. Everything was safe, fun, and educational. There’s so much culture to absorb and the tour really dispelled a lot of misconceptions people have in general about TJ. Yes, there’s a red zone but there’s a lot of other stuff there too. We ended the day with coffee at Pasaje Rodriguez, a cool artsy street with a lot of hipster shops, graffiti art, and decent coffee. Thanks Fernanda!
