We met in front of McDonald's by the U.S. border. A few days before our trip I got an email that says there was going to be 5 more people joining our group making a total of 7. I got a text a few minutes before our 1PM start that Lucia was going to be our tour guide.
When 1PM arrived, we met with Lucia and was told we were the only 2 people in our group. This was a relief to us because with more people, there would have been more preferences of where to go so basically with just the two of us, it was just like a private tour with Lucy.
She walked us across the border and said she lives in Tijuana and has been a tour guide with Border Tours for about 6 months. She was very knowledgeable about her home town and we found her very pleasant, accommodating, and professional. We were very apprehensive about going into Tijuana because of the bad press. She said don't believe all the hype and dire warnings. We felt very safe with her walking around town.
Lucy asked us what our interest were and what we want to do. My husband loves history and culture of the Mexican people so that is what we did. We went downtown Tijuana and walked through the market square, visited the Church of the Virgin Guadalupe, taco tastings, rattle snake tequila drinking, the cultural center where Day of the Death was celebrating and there was band playing, and other sites.
At the end of the day, Lucy took us back to the border to say our good-byes. Lucy was also very humorous, attentive, and we thoroughly enjoyed her company. I would definitely recommend her as your guide if you want to take a trip to Tijuana. We would certainly ask for her again.
