We had an excellent morning on the river with Andy. He confirmed with us by phone before he picked us up at our hotel and made sure we were properly dressed for the day. He was a great river guide, explaining how the river is formed, how it changes every day, why he loves it, which rivers flow in to it and where they come from...he knows so much about the animals and culture of the area, you can tell his heart is really in it. We saw eagles and looked for moose and generally chatted about many different things, while swatting horse flies and watching Arctic terns hunt for fish. I highly recommend Andy and Haines Rafting. He really cares about making sure you have a great time on his trip and in Haines overall. He provided lunch afterwards, which we ate river-side, and then dropped us back off at our hotel after making sure we had plenty of dinner and sight-seeing recommendations for the remainder of the day. Andy is a credit to the town of Haines, and that's obvious because all day long when people asked us what we had done that morning and we told them, they'd say "Oh, Andy, he's a great guy." When someone has that good of a reputation in a small town like Haines, you know they're for real. We had so much fun - call them and you'll see what I mean.

Andy with Haines Rafting Company was great with his knowledge of the area and wild life he made it very enjoyable. We went the middle of September no bugs and a lot of Eagles, nature at its best.

My husband and i booked a half day rafting trip with Haines rafting company in late august 2014. This gentle raft down the Tsirku and Chilkat rivers proved a major highlight of our 10 day Alaskan adventure. We observed eagles hunting salmon, several nests containing fledgling bald eagles and gorgeous scenery. Andy, the owner of the company and our guide, made our trip feel incredibly special and personalized. He engaged us both as individuals and invited our participation in decisions about where to explore along the river. Importantly, he is a very knowledable guide and could hold a conversation on nearly any topic. He told lovely, entertaining stories and we learned about the natural habitat, indigenous cultures, and places of interest in Haines. He also knew when silence would allow us to take in the preserve best. I definately recommend this as one of the first things to do if and when you go to Haines! Especially if you value the personal touch. This element of our trip and our interaction with andy definately added to the magic of the scenery and set this trip apart from other touring activities.
