Explore San Diego Tide Pools with a Marine Biologist

Adventure with a marine biology educator along the coast and learn more about wildlife living in the intertidal zone of San Diego. Great for all ages and skill levels. There are some stairs and lots of uneven terrain we will walk on, so this is not a wheelchair-friendly activity.

I taught middle and high school marine biology for more than a decade before committing to environmental tourism! With fifteen years of teaching youth and adults in outdoor education settings, plus my background in conservation biology, provides guests with in-depth (pun intended) knowledge of marine life during our tide pool exploration.

Groups are kept small (10 people maximum, with exceptions for private groups/families) which makes this a more intimate and personal experience.

Above or below the surf, Matt is San Diego’s finest marine naturalist. Not only will you find more incredible creatures than you thought possible, but you’ll walk away with a new understanding and knowledge of the sea. Matt isn’t just a stellar biologist, he’s a gifted teacher. Matt’s marine life experiences are hands down the greatest thing going in San Diego. We’ve been on dozens of trips with him and look forward to many more!

Matt was very friendly, safe, communicative, knowledgeable, worked well with every age group within the group to make sure everyone was comfortable and learning, and made this trip unforgettable. I never knew there were so many types of life you can find in tide pools and Matt explained what all we were seeing, how they fit into the ocean ecosystem, and what we could do to help keep them safe and protected. Tide pool times are dependent on when the tide is lower so he explained why certain times of the year and day you could tide pool safely and others you couldn’t. He took pictures that he sent after the trip with notes on what animals or plants those pictures were of as a reminder of the trip. It was a great learning experience and safe for any age or experience level. I had a blast and would 100% book another trip soon! I highly recommend his tours and even ended up booking a snorkel trip later with SnorkelMatt because the experience was so good!
