Our group of three (all in our late twenties) was traveling through Moab and in search of an afternoon water sport activity. We saw availability with Navtec and easily booked a half-day white water rafting tour online, and we’re so glad that we did! When we arrived 15 minutes in advance per online instructions, we were warmly greeted by front desk staff who pointed us to the shuttle van and offered to hold onto our keys while we were on the river. The tour was engaging from the start, due in no small part to our guide, Reed, when we headed out to the river on a ~30 minute drive. All along the drive, Reed noted points of interest and shared fun facts about the different sites and landmarks, which made the ride all the more enjoyable. One of the things we learned is that this stretch of the road along the Colorado River is the second most scenic highway in America according to National Geographic - what a treat! Upon arriving, we were led to a light lunch with make-your-own sandwiches and fruit while our guides got the boats ready, which was a nice touch. Before we set out for the river, our group got a brief but informative safety talk to ensure we were prepared for what was to come. Next, we separated into our boats, snuggly fitted with our PFDs. Pro tip: ask for Reed - you won’t regret it!!! Throughout our ride down the river, he consistently made sure we were safe and comfortable, answered all of our questions, shared a wealth of knowledge about local geology/ecology, and encouraged fun (within reason). He was consistently engaged with his fellow rafters while paddling hard to keep us on course, and was great with the little ones on board as well. As for the rapids, conditions were manageable for beginners like us - thrilling without being terrifying. We moved through mostly class II rapids but encountered one class III rapid, which was very exciting and refreshing, considering the 95 degree heat. All told, this activity is a great midday option for those hot summer days when hiking seems like it might be too much - the winds on the river make things feel a little cooler, and the splashes from the river were definitely a welcome addition! Not sure when we’ll be returning to Moab next, but when we do, we’ll definitely look to Navtec for our outdoor adventures!
