As someone who is always looking for something to push the envelope (bungee jumping, ziplining, numerous static line jumps as a Paratrooper, ultra high horsepower go carts), I've found it hard to find things that really get my heart racing anymore, but this experience did just that and put a smile on my face that I couldn't wipe off all day!
I chose the Top Gun experience, and they provided a van for pickup at my hotel, and the driver was on time, polite and courteous.
Upon arriving at the hanger, I was given a quick flight briefing by my pilot "Whip" (I hope I remember that right!), who explained some of the maneuvers we would do and that even when I was flying he was in complete control, and there was nothing I could do that he couldn't recover from. He also told me that he would push the envelope as far as I was comfortable, and if at any time I wasn't feeling well he would back off until I recovered.
During the flight Whip would demonstrate a maneuver, and then let me give it a try. We tried this with loops, barrel rolls, hammerheads and a few others whose names escape me. Eventually he asked if I wanted to fly more, or if I wanted to experience the advanced maneuvers, and I quickly agreed to the advanced things. We pulled upwards of 6 G's ( I think he said we did 8 at one point) doing torque rolls, stalls, flat spins and all other kinds of insanity. The whole time I couldn't stop laughing and smiling, not counting the higher G maneuvers where I tried to flex all my muscles so I wouldn't black out! We finished up the flight with an awesome barrel roll following by an inverted dive into a valley in the mountains, and skimmed along the ground between the ridges for a simulated bombing run on a target.
In summary, this was the best money I've ever spent on entertainment, period. The entire staff was professional, courteous, and put you at ease.
Thank you Sky Combat Ace for an unbelievable experience!
