We have kayaks of our own but we still look for opportunities to go kayaking whenever we travel (Colorado River below the Hoover Dam, Seward Alaska, etc.). These trips always give us a different perspective of where we are and this was no exception. Kayaking the Santa Elena Canyon was incredible! It's one thing to stick your feet in the water or to look up at the rock walls from the river's edge . . . it's another to float in the water and see both sides of the canyon rising straight up to beautiful blue skies. This was our first boomerang trip and paddling upstream was not difficult at all. There were a couple spots where the water was low and we had to walk our kayaks but it wasn't that bad. The water is cold and it gets chilly floating in the shadows, so wear lots of layers and move your feet slowly in the water, to avoid splashing water into the boots they provide. The folks walking the trails beside the river wearing shorts and t-shirts gave us some strange looks as we floated out of the canyon, wearing our winter caps, sweatshirts and coats - but that's okay. We were comfortable. Erica was our guide and provided us with the history of the area and an explanation of the rock layers and formations we saw. Her passion and love for what she does and where she lives is evident. (Hopefully we'll catch up with her in the Smoky Mountains some day.) There is a lot to see in Big Bend National Park and there is no better way to see the Rio Grande than by kayak. We would absolutely recommend this for anyone exploring Big Bend.

FAAAABULOUS CREW - Informative, sweet, funny, highly experienced. We’ve been to Big Bend more than a handful of times yet this was our favorite experience by far. You really can’t beat being told stories of the land by those that know it best, we even got a killer history lesson on the bus ride back to headquarters. I wish I remembered the gentleman’s name who drove us back! He was hilarious, the bird expert of the tour, piercing eyes, terrible dad jokes – – I believe he was from California – – he was great! Five stars. Obviously the sisters that run the businesses are unbelievably phenomenal, wish we could learn from them for more than just a few hours. Will definitely be returning again. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

My son and I kayaked in the Big Bend State Park. The tour chooses the river based on current water levels. They picked us up at the take out point and that was great in that we could leave our dry clothes in the car and we also avoided having to wear our Covid masks all the way there since we didn’t ride in their van. Our guides Josh, Rye and Adam were very safety conscious, pointed out interesting facts and had good stories to tell. They provided us with rubber boots but I advise just wearing some old tennis shoes because the boots filled up with water and were clumsy to walk in. You will get wet but it’s not really uncomfortable. The temperature started at 50 degrees and warmed up to 72 the day we went (between Christmas and New Years) and we didn’t get cold. Between sunlight and paddling, you’ll stay warm.
