Make your pwn way to the West Rim where guests are provided an opportunity to experience the awe-inspiring canyon from many different perspectives. Please Note: Last ticket is sold at 4:45 p.m. from March to November and varies as days get longer or shorter going into and out of the summer. Please be aware that Arizona does not observe Daylight Saving Time. Thus, during the winter months, Grand Canyon West is on Mountain Standard Time and is a full hour ahead of California and Nevada, which are on Pacific Standard Time. When DST is being observed, beginning in March, the time at Grand Canyon West is the same as the time in Las Vegas and California.

Grand Canyon Skywalk

This 10-foot wide, horseshoe-shaped glass bridge extends 70 feet out over the rim of the Grand Canyon. Look down and you can see right through the glass platform 4,000 feet to the floor of the Canyon below. This engineering marvel offers unparalleled views of one of the world’s Seven Natural Wonders. Nervous about walking on glass almost a mile above the floor of the Grand Canyon? Have no fear—the Skywalk is strong enough to hold seventy fully loaded 747 passenger jets. After walking the Sky visit the Skywalk Gift Shop and pick up souvenirs to remember your walk and the grandeur of the Canyon.

This is the Grand Canyon Tour that is the closest to Vegas. It is NOT part of the National Park System and is NOT free, there is a minimum entrance fee of $44 per person which is charged by the Hualapai Tribe since the West Rim is located on their reservation. I was not aware of the fee before I arrived and after driving 2.5 hrs form Vegas, could not tell a family of 6 that they were not going to see the Grand Canyon so I coughed up a few hundred dollars and we took their shuttle to see the views. You park at the airport and pay the mandatory admission then take a shuttle bus that will go to two stops. If you spend the entire day there, it's not necessarily overpriced but certainly not cheap. In addition to views and hiking, there are many other activities which cost extra such as Helicopter, Plane and Horse rides, the Famous Skywalk and more, all of which cost an additional fee over and above the $44 entrance fee. There are snack bars and a restaurant although it was closed when we went. Due to COVID19, there was a mandatory screening and temperature check when we entered but it was not at all crowded. I would imagine this is a huge money maker for the tribe in the days when people from Vegas arrive by the busload. Do your research before you go and be prepared to pay at least the admission fee. This leaves the final question – was it worth it? The Grand Canyon is one of the 7 wonders of the world and the views are truly breathtaking. There are few other places in the works like it and if you have never seen it, then yes, it is worth it.

AdvTravelR, Our entry fee to the West Rim is $39 per person with an extra $20 per person for the Skywalk. While this may differ from the entrance fees to other rims of the Canyon, the money does go to support the local Hualapai Tribe. We're glad you enjoyed the views and the overall experience!

The term "tourist trap" was made just for places like this. You pay your $39 entry fee to get in. Ok, they need to make money. Then you pay an additional $20 to walk out on the "Sky Walk". Ok, again, they need to make money. Then you are told you cannot take anything with you. Empty your pockets and surrender your phone and any camera equipment. They provide a "free" locker. Now, on the surface, it sounds like a safety thing. But if you want pictures, you must pay them to take them. Now, I get it. It had nothing to go with safety. That is obvious when you walk out onto the structure. The only way you could lose anything is if you threw it over the tall solid glass railing. Then I noticed they strategically placed frosted glass in areas that would have a view. Really? If you want to see anything, pay the money Mr. tourist lol. Now, here is another surprise. The walk isn't even over the canyon. It is over a deep gully outside the canyon. About a quarter mile over, you are looking at the backside of the actual canyon wall. When you are ready for the second stop of the tour, you wait in line to get on a bus. The second stop was absolutely wonderful. Amazing! So much to see, we loved it.

cruiseplanners_joe, We're very sorry about your disappointment in the Skywalk. We don't allow outside electronics or other items on the Skywalk not only to prevent items from being dropping over the edge, but also to prevent items from being dropped onto the glass and damaging it. Guests do have the option of simply enjoying the Skywalk experience without paying the extra money for photos.
