The Wildlife Discovery Tour provides the opportunity to explore Assateague's fascinating ecosystem. Learn about Assateague's natural and cultural history aboard your own kayak, or take a tandem kayak with a friend! This hands-on, experiential tour focuses on marine species, birds, plants, and of course, Assateague's famous Wild Horses. With the help of our expert guides, you will safely meet some of the amazing creatures that inhabit Assateague Island, one of the world's most productive habitats.

We prioritize finding horses on this tour, but it doesn't always happen, let's say 80/20 in favor of seeing the horses. They are wild animals and are always on the move while grazing, but we scout early and often to give you the best chance. However, there are hundreds of other amazing native species we may discover on the tour, and we think you, and definitely your kids, will still have a blast. On all tours, our guides will always prioritize whatever you are most interested in, just ask!

The staff and crew of Assateague Outfitters is friendly, professional and knowledgeable of the area. Our family of 6 enjoyed the entire experience from learning the correct paddle techniques before getting into the water to learning about the diverse wildlife as we kayaked and explored. We even caught some crabs and learned all about them. It was an enjoyable experience and followed up with lunch at the 5 Tides made for a perfect day. We will come again!

Clamming was terrific! Our tour guide was a let to track down the wild horses and give us a great experience. Great knowledge on the wildlife with in the reservation!

My 7 year old son and I went on this tour during our recent camping trip to Assateague. The bay was perfect for kayaking, and we saw all kinds of wildlife, from the ubiquitous ponies to crabs, mussels, clams and birds. The kayaking was easy enough for everyone to keep up, including several children and brand new kayakers, and the breaks to fish, go clamming and watch the wildlife were great to keep the "are we there yets" at bay. Chris, our guide, was super friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
