Your half-day cruise from Key West starts at the Opal Key Resort Head out into the waters of the Key West National Wildlife Refuge, where you'll enjoy a guided kayaking tour through the mangrove habitat and go snorkeling in the clear waters of this protected environment. Your guide provides instruction for kayaking and snorkeling, plus tells you a little about the history of the area. Use of all gear is included, as well as snacks and beverages on board.

My wife and I were recommended Danger Charters by a local photographer who lives on the island. We were thoroughly impressed by the time the excursion ended. The trip started with a comfortable sail out to a cluster of Mangrove Islands. One of the crew members, Matthew gave a 10-15 minute dissertation on the ecosystem and history of Key West which was an interesting twist we were not expecting. We then kayaked through the mangrove trees and finished with a snorkeling session. There was not abundant wildlife but it was still super fun and we were able to see some cool birds and fish. The ride back included wine / beer / snacks which was a nice finish to the day. Captain Tony, Nicole and Matthew did a fantastic job!

My husband, 12 year old son and I enjoyed the Danger charter sailboat excursion! The crew and captain were amazing and so accommodating. There was snorkeling and an awesome kayak tour through the mangrove trees. We saw so many different species of wildlife! I totally recommend this trip to anyone!

We had been on a sunset cruise before and had enjoyed it, so this time we chose a tour that would let us combine sunset viewing with snorkeling and kayaking. We had a great time. Captain Matthew and his crew of Sammi and Derrick were awesome! Several of us on the trip were uncertain about snorkeling, and they gave us a lesson and were encouraging and reassuring -- all of us ended up in the water and enjoying ourselves. (Note: I chose this particular tour because the snorkeling is not at the reef, which has choppier water than I feel comfortable in. The downside of the more shallow and calmer area where we snorkeled is that there is less to see, but we still enjoyed it.) The kayaking among the mangroves was also fun, and we saw several types of birds up close. A couple of additional notes: we had not eaten lunch before the departure (2 pm) because we were uncertain if we'd feel a little seasick (we brought ginger candy and sea bands -- turns out that after the first five minutes, the ride was very smooth and we had no problem at all), and were grateful for the sliced fruit the crew brought out before snorkeling. There was no more food until tortilla chips, salsa, and hummus around 5:30 - we were starving by then. So if you forgo lunch as we did, maybe slip a granola bar in your gear. Also, one of us in our party forgot to bring a sweatshirt/jacket and was cool after snorkeling. (Don't worry about feeling cold in the water, though - although it was February, the air temperature was around 78 - 80 and the water temperature was around 8- - 82.) We are planning to take this tour again the next time we are in Key West.
