This tour was recommended by our friends (Hope locals) when I mentioned wanting to get out in the water.... being from Maui, this was probably the coldest water I have ever gotten in... but it was Awesome! we saw some fast and furious white-water rapids (level 4? I think) The guides were all very professional, but still a lot of fun, joking about and keeping everyone smiling, but withouts sacrificing a safety-1st mentality. If you're visiting Alaska and want to try something exciting, this tour was fantastic!

I am an avid kayaker, so keep my perspective in mind. Our group was the last trip of the season (2018) so the water was low. We even had to get out and walk our raft around some boulders. The rapids were fun but not nearly as many or as strong as I was expecting, so my experience was disappointing. Additionally, I felt rushed. They were in a hurry to get us on in our suits and in the van... I even forgot a few items while hurrying to get in the van but we rushed out. Our raft's guide, Tommy, was great! He was friendly, outgoing, and he put safety first at all times. He had no problem telling stories all the way down the river and also telling us every turn nook and cranny we approached. Tommy really knows this river and he is very entertaining! The dry suits will not keep you completely dry, but they are comfortable and do a pretty good job of holding in your body heat if you wear proper layers underneath (and at least 2 pairs of smart wool socks). Your feet will be wet, there is no escaping it.. but focus on having fun! The cost of this trip was pretty steep considering the low water levels and lack of rapids. The classification system seemed a little off, perhaps because of the end of season... but the two class V rapids were easier than the initial class III. I recommend you go in June or July... September is not a good month to get the full adrenaline experience. Oh and the photographer was NOT AVAILABLE.. and we were not told until we were on the water... so there were no pictures and no discounts or partial refunds or even a credit to come back and try again next year. That was very disappointing!

Archie and the rest of the guide were fantastic. Rafting was fantastic and pretty rough but our guides got us thru (not sure how much help the rest of us were) with only one dumping. Watch the age limits as this was pretty intense rafting .
