Our guide, Earl from Sweetours, made this one of our most memorable half day tour.
Got picked up from the hotel at a decent 8AM… which is very convenient! You get dropped off at the hotel too- and Earl took the side routes to avoid traffic on the way back, so we got back pretty early too!
Tour begins with driving through Las Vegas into the outskirts! Got great American breakfast recommended (and covered by) our guide at the Iron Rail Cafe- very generous portions and yummy food! Each breakfast set comes with two eggs (of your choice), bacon/sausage, hash brown and toast, plus water and/or orange juice. Really lovely.
Drive through the desert to the Mike O’Callagham-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge with a brilliant view of the dam (go out here to take pictures! You get a nice angle of the dam in the background) and then across the bridge to the Utah side up to a lookout point (overview) with a souvenir shop.
Throughout the whole trip, Earl kept us entertained with his running commentary on and off, telling us about the areas we passed through, funny stories, the history of the places- he’s really knowledgeable and made the long drive enjoyable :)
The tour was also incredibly smooth and professionally arranged! After we got to the dam we were provided tickets for the underground generator tour (super impressive, we had Mel for our tour guide and she was lovely!!) and time to also check out the original exhibit with a miniature Colorado river (it’s 10 minutes, and while the model is cute unless you are very invested in the history it can be a bit dry,,). We also managed to walk on the actual dam and visit the gift shop and cafe (very briefly) on the way back to the bus! the thing about tours is that you have to be punctual about getting back to the bus after places, but we had just enough time to visit every dam thing and got back with two minutes to spare.
A great experience, made so much better by the wonderful tour guides !Definitely recommend :D
