After panning for gold, we were treated to an Alaskan Salmon Bake. There was so much food! The BBQ salmon was delicious. Afterwards you can hike the trail to the waterfall. We saw tons of spawning salmon. What a memorable trip

We chose this tour based on a recommendation in the Lonely Planet guide book. We enjoyed the commentary by Epaul, our bus driver to the event site, which was in a beautiful location in the forest. Most everything was downhill from there. The salmon was way overcooked, dry and tasteless except for the brown sugar sauce they poured on top. The side dishes were typical of a not-very-good cafeteria. Everywhere we turned, there was a tip jar, even for the guys cooking the salmon and for the bus drivers! For the price, we expected much better food and service. The high point of the meal was the music provided by a singer and guitarist. After eating, we walked around the site and saw salmon swimming up Gold River and dying. At the end of the trail was the old gold mine with signs warning not to try to enter. Scattered about the place was various pieces of old mining equipment. There were a few interpretive signs, but no guide and no one to explain the history of the site or how the mining operation worked. The bus ride back to the downtown area was unremarkable. In summary, we felt the tour was overhyped and not worth the cost in dollars and time. We don't recommend this tour.
