The activity was worth every penny. The off roading jeeps was very thrilling and as always the track was safe enough to where there were no issues of getting stuck while driving. In addition, the off roading provided the group with a very beautiful and breathtaking vantage point of the Tongass forest which made the driving journey through the dirt paths absolutely worthwhile. Once we finished our Jeep excursion, we continued our drive to the docks of the nearby lake. Once we were carefully loaded onto our canoe with our oars we set off on a slight yet satisfying journey down the lake to another nearby dock. There was a base camp which was filled with delicious goodies of snacks, locally sourced jam, salmon dip and excellent chowder. In addition we took a short yet very educating nature walk. The entire walk featured a very clean and well maintained path though the old portion of the forest. While on the path we were engaged by our tour guide who taught and reflected upon the inner workings of the rainforest. Once the walk was over and our bellies were filled we entered the canoe once more for our journey back to the jeeps. A short drive back to base camp concluded this excursion.
Ultimately, this entire experience was further epitomized by our tour guide, Sam. His guidance, leadership and along with his clever sense of humor on the journey made any form of physical labor worthwhile. His thoughtful insights that accompanied the enlightening knowledge about the surroundings allowed me to have a clear and surreal picture image of the great Alaskan outdoors. Sam made a four hour activity last about an hour which is a testament to his ability to engage his tour group.
