Key West Ghost and Mysteries Tour

Check-in for the ghost tour is no later than 8:45 at the corner of Duval and Caroline Street in front of the Porter Mansion on the Duval Street side. There is a small booth just at the entrance to the property, at the beginning of the 300 block of Duval Street, and that is where you will do your check-in. At 9pm the guide will depart and walk you down Rose Lane for an introduction to the tour which includes some Key West history, terminology used when talking about different spirit sightings, instructions on how to take pictures, and general guidelines. Key West is Florida's second oldest city and one of the most haunted locations in the country. From Rose Lane you will walk to the end of the block stopping at the Casa Antigua, Ernest Hemingway's first Key West residence where he fell in love with Key West and wrote "A Farewell to Arms". You will hear what happened in this interesting building and the ghostly story about The Watcher. The tour then moves up to Eaton Street to the Artist House where you will hear the story of the creepy, Robert the Doll and see where he used to live. Next the tour moves to Bahama Street where the oldest graveyard is located in back of Saint Paul's Church. You are invited to use the dowsing rods at this point to try to engage spirit activity. Just past the graveyard is the Dean-Lopez Funeral Home. This stop is where the strange tale of Count Von Cosel and Elana is related. This story is stranger than fiction, but it's all true and documented. You now will wind back around to the La Concha Hotel and hear what happened at the tallest building in Key West. It's a ghostly tale, but not what you probably think. Next the tour moves to the Oldest House and Gardens to explore the grounds at the back of the house, and hear stories about the family who lived here and learn about the many ghostly sightings. This is the most active location on the tour and many guests get pictures on their cameras. Finally, the tour moves inside to hear the chilling tale of a prominent Key West family at their former residence. As the tour concludes, there is time for stories and picture sharing. The tour is interactive and questions are encouraged. The tour ends at 10:30 across the street from where it started.

I've been on a couple tours, a trolley in New Orleans that I couldn't hear let alone pay attention too and a ghost pub tour which proved to be a bad combination. I highly recommend this tour. There were about 10 people on our tour. I had what I believe to be a legit experience at one of the sites and I'm a pretty skeptical person. I had gone back to the site after the tour and had a repeat experience. My boyfriend did as well and he is even more skeptical. He would not approach the site after the tour as he was not comfortable doing so. I just heard tapping on glass. He was right next to me and heard a loud continuous thumping. Regardless of the experiences, I felt entertained the entire time even though my boyfriend and I both have a pretty low attention span. I also felt like I learned a little bit about the keys and its culture. I enjoyed the picture taking as well as other activities that kept everybody involved. Word of caution, go to the bathroom before the tour, especially if you had a few.

Ghosts don't really exist, so take that for what it is. For the people down rating him because orbs are not ghosts or they did not see anything....well duh! The value is in the storytelling and history of the island. Ted definitely knows his "Key Weird". Plus he isn't phony and over playing the part like other ghost tours (we walked by one tour with the guide wearing a black top hat, cape, and silver medallion necklace. Come on, we are not children here) Overall I suggest this to anyone who wants to have a great time, enjoys quality storytelling, and loves fascinating history!

This was a walking tour starting and ending on impressive Duval Street. Now, we are not true believers in ghosties and goblins and things that go bump in the night, so don't imagine some city-slicker schmucks. What we are is open to other possibilities...and besides, its so kitsch... everyone should do it once. Or Twice, or Thrice... seriously we would definately take this tour again, especially if we had someone even half as swell as our guide, Chalmers. Chalmers is a self-admitted frustrated actor. His performance that night was ANYTHING but frustrating. Because of his approchability, Chalmers was immediately likeable and he easily transported us back in time. His historical knowledge of the local lore was an unending well, as evidenced by the variety of questions he fielded that no one could have prepped for beforehand. It was an easy walk for our nice sized tour group. We moved at a leisurly pace and could hear our tour guide easily, even surrounded by the clamor of Duval. Thank you Key West Ghost and Mysteries Tour, it was truly SRO!
