Just did the Lower East Side tour this weekend with our excellent tour guide, Matt. So glad I did! Tour was part of a celebratory weekend and I was just along for the ride, as I don't consider myself a foodie. Now I just might be. Tour included eight stops over three hours with a mix of sweet and savory samples from both historic and brand-new businesses. Matt provided all of the necessary items for tastings and the tour allowed us to skip lines and avoid the long weekend waits. Portions were so generous that we asked at one point how many more stops were ahead because no one thought they could eat another bite. Not all heroes wear capes, however, and we were able to plow through somehow. Final stop included a very sweet surprise by Matt for the couple we were celebrating, and to say we were touched is an understatement. In between walks to each stop were tidbits about the history of the neighborhood and descriptions of the tenement living of the past vs the newer, luxury buildings that have arrived. Tour is well worth the $75 price (before tip) and was one of my all-time NYC highlights.

I went on this tour yesterday. Matt - our tour guide, was amazing! Matt knew so much and really cared about everyone on the tour. The information was great - so much cool history. And the food was fabulous. 8 different food stops - plenty to fill you up for lunch. The food was so good, we bought stuff to bring home at 5 of the 8 stops!
