This was a last-minute decision, suggested (pleading, begging) by my 4-yr-old grandson. I thought the crew would tell me that he was too young, but that wasn’t the case…..AND, they had the right size life jacket on board for him.
It was a beautiful, clear night with a calm river but enough wind to shut the engines down and get under sail as we neared the Statue of Liberty. Nature kicked in with a magnificent sunset as a backdrop for the incomparable Lady Liberty and everyone got to take as many breathtaking photos as they wanted to. The crew were outgoing, fun and hard-working; they were responsive to requests for blankets even when they were in the midst of swinging booms and drinks being served. It was a wonderful time, even for this native New Yorker. And my grandson was enthralled by the sails, the quiet and the brilliant view of the Statue.
